CMJ 2008: The Evolution of Social Networks and Music

The College Music Journal's 2008 Music Marathon kicked off yesterday in New York City. The annual festival features 1,100 bands over five days, in venues throughout the city. CMJ incorporates a number of other events during the five-day period as well, including comedy shows, a film festival, and daytime panels. I sat in on one of the latter today.

Moderated by RockCandy.tv founder (and, interestingly enough, former Lilith Fair performer) Nancy Tarr, the panel carried the fairly standard music technology title--"The Evolution of Social Networks and Music." (Contrast that with an earlier panel about the RIAA called "Don't Taze Me Bro.") Joining Tarr for the panel were Paul Burgess of Slop Music
