With the security-suites season already well underway, a few trends are beginning to emerge. Manufacturers are finally realizing that users are tired of security programs that slow down their systems. That's why the 2009 crop of security suites promises to deliver more security without hogging system resources.
The PC Magazine Software Team took the top five recently released security suites to the labs to see if they delivered the goods. This year we devoted an entire day of performance testing per suite to our already lengthy set of evaluations. For instance, we tested boot times and found that Norton Internet Security 2009 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 fared well, adding only 15 seconds to normal boot time. However, F-Secure Internet Security 2009 nearly doubled the boot-up time, and BitDefender Total Security 2009 more than doubled it.
We've also seen how security suite makers have updated their looks to create more user-friendly interfaces. While we've tested only five security suites so far, we are going to be posting more reviews
