This one's still in the rumor stage, but sources are beginning to bubble about Google's possible pending purchase of Valve, manufacturer of the content distribution platform Steam--perhaps an attempt for the company to one-up its Google Portal app.
Steam is a little bit social network, a little bit gaming. For Google such a purchase could perhaps mean even more exposure for its nearly ubiquitous ad distribution platform.
Or maybe the company is still reeling from the relative flop of its Second Life-esque virtual world, Lively.
Update: Stephen Totilo at MTV has confirmation from Valve that the rumor is false.
